What Should I Expect with Implant-Supported Dentures?
Before treatment, we will complete a dental exam, including digital x-rays, to better understand the health of your jawbone and gums. If your gums or jawbone are too weak to hold the dental implants, a bone and/or gum graft can be performed. Once the area is fully healed, you can have implant surgery.
Your mouth will be numbed with local anesthesia before the procedure. Other sedation options can be considered if the procedure is lengthy or you have dental fears or anxieties. Dr. Sula Umansky will make surgical incisions in your gums and insert posts in the holes in the jawbone. For dentures, four or more posts are used per arch. The incisions in the gums will be sutured with part of the implant remaining above the gumline. The posts will be covered with a temporary denture as they heal over 4 – 6 months. The implants will integrate with your gums and jaw. When Dr. Sula Umansky feels the posts are strong enough, your custom dentures can be connected to the posts and fitted.
