sedationMany children feel a little nervous about visiting the dentist and may have trouble allowing while Dr. Sula and Associates to check their mouth. We offer pediatric sedation to help your child feel more comfortable in our office and help them receive the dental care they need.

We will discuss all sedation options with you before providing a sedation treatment for your child, and we will carefully monitor your child throughout treatment to ensure that they remain safe. Our dentists may recommend sedation for patients who are especially young or nervous, or for children who require longer, more complex procedures.

There are several types of sedation – nitrous oxide, oral sedation and IV sedation. Nitrous oxide, or laughing gas, is a mild sedative that helps children relax. At the end of a procedure in which nitrous oxide is used, pure oxygen is provided to clear out any remaining nitrous oxide from your child’s system. Oral sedation is typically provided as a pill or liquid. While it will not put your child to sleep, it will help them feel calm and relaxed. IV (intravenous) sedation is provided directly into the bloodstream via injection. Children who receive IV sedation are usually given nitrous oxide prior to the needle being inserted. A tube is also inserted to aid in their breathing.
